Javier Sarmiento

Javier Sarmiento

Javi- spent his childhood in Guatemala before returning to live in Mexico. His work is rooted in a deep fascination with the nature of the self and the other, through an obsessive lens on binaries, contrast: gender, sexuality, sensuality.

Through his musework, the reproduction of their-self is done with the purpose of becoming real, natural. Capturing them – himself of the other – in moments revealing intimate personal truths. Rather it be through chromatic language, or the rips and burns in the canvas, the subject is rebelliously dissected and reinterpreted by various meands. For Javi, the energy created between artist and muse, between gazer and the gazed, is nevessary. An attempt at complete harmony with the self, through the other.

Currently residing in Milano, Italy. Javi explores his passion for the introspection of the delicate dance between subject, space and emotion depicted on his canvases.
